Superscript Output

Note: Characters without Unicode superscript equivalents will remain unchanged. Most lowercase letters (a-z), all digits (0-9), and common symbols (+, -, =, (, )) have superscript forms.

Superscript Generator & Subscript Generator

Our superscript and subscript generator converts your regular text into Unicode superscript and subscript characters that you can copy and paste anywhere. Unlike HTML formatting tags ( and ) that only work in web pages, Unicode superscript and subscript characters are real text characters that display correctly on every platform, including social media, messaging apps, documents, and plain text.

How Superscript and Subscript Unicode Works

Unicode includes a set of characters specifically designed to appear as raised (superscript) or lowered (subscript) text. For example, the regular letter "a" has a superscript version "ᵃ" (U+1D43 Modifier Letter Small A) and a subscript version "ₐ" (U+2090 Latin Subscript Small Letter A). These are completely separate code points from the regular letter, meaning they inherently appear in a raised or lowered position without any formatting applied.

Character Coverage

Superscript Unicode has excellent coverage: all 26 lowercase letters (except q), all digits 0-9, and several symbols (+, -, =, (, )) have dedicated superscript characters. Subscript coverage is more limited: only about 15 lowercase letters and all digits 0-9 have subscript equivalents. Characters without Unicode equivalents will remain in their original form in the output.

Use Cases

  • Math notation - Write exponents (x²), powers (2ⁿ), and mathematical expressions in plain text
  • Chemical formulas - Write formulas like H₂O, CO₂, and C₆H₁₂O₆ using subscript characters
  • Footnotes and references - Add superscript numbers for footnote indicators in social media posts and messages
  • Social media bios - Create compact, elevated text for Instagram, Twitter/X, and TikTok bios
  • Creative text - Combine with other fancy text styles for unique formatting effects

Frequently Asked Questions

Most lowercase letters have Unicode superscript equivalents, including a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z. All digits 0-9 have superscript forms. The letter q has limited support. Our generator clearly indicates which characters have Unicode equivalents.
Unicode subscript support is more limited than superscript. Available subscript letters include: a, e, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, r, s, t, u, v, x. All digits 0-9 have subscript forms. Letters like b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y, z do not have official Unicode subscript equivalents.
Yes! Unicode superscript and subscript characters work on most social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, Discord, and TikTok. They are real Unicode characters, not formatting, so they paste correctly anywhere that supports text input.
HTML superscript () is a formatting tag that only works in HTML environments. Unicode superscript characters are individual characters that inherently look like raised text. They work everywhere, including plain text, social media, messages, and any platform that supports Unicode.
